Early on in history, crochet was only for the rich. They deemed it their "right" to use this art form exclusively to decorate their homes and of course, themselves. The poor were encouraged to rather "stick" to knitting and to leave the "fancy" stuff for the upper class. This outlook was even published in local newspapers. Imagine the backlash from the "poor". I think we are all glad nobody stuck to this outlook and that our Grannies could pass this art form on to us. |
