Crinolines Box

The Crinoline was the first dress that was worn by all classes. It was a huge hit because the ladies, instead of wearing up to 6 petticoats to create the "bell" shape of the dress, could now wear a metal frame with only one petticoat over it.

This was very cool to wear and provided free movement when walking.

Have a look at the ivory lace color scheme of this crinoline lady.

The lid is decorated with a delicate lace embellishment border.

The bottom of the box gives a nice finished look.

And instead of using the classic colors, color match your box to your room color scheme.

Here we made the 4*4 box in pink and white with a dab of green for the litle leaves.

And I used the box to "hide" my Q-tips in.

A colorful crinoline with lavender flowers provides a special look.

The lace frill I used on the lid is not as elaborate as for the 5*7 but creates a simple yet elegant effect.

  Tutorial

The Crinoline Box is assembled the same way as the Whispering Roses Box

Stitch out:

1 x base panel,
2 x lid panels
6 x side panels.

Basic applique techniques.

Kindly note that our applique box is neatly lined on the inside. (this step is included in the design)

With zig-zag stitch and invisible thread, sew the side panels to the base panel.

Now "zig-zag" the side panels together. (side-to-side)

Lid:

With zig-zag stitch and invisible thread, sew the 2 panels together.
Attach your lid and embelishment and your Whispering Roses Box is ready for use.
