Early on in history, crochet was only for the rich. They deemed it their "right" to use this art form exclusively to decorate their homes and of course, themselves. The poor were encouraged to rather "stick" to knitting and to leave the "fancy" stuff for the upper class. This outlook was even published in local newspapers. Imagine the backlash from the "poor".

I think we are all glad nobody stuck to this outlook and that our Grannies could pass this art form on to us.

You can use your crochet doily as a decoration on its' own (I added a few roses) or you can use it on your tray for tea or coffee.

I used 9 x 4*4 crochet squares to create this doily. It is large enough for my cups of tea, teapot and other accessories to make tea time an enjoyable experience.
