Photo Tutorial on How To Stitch Quilt Blocks together

To make this Tote Bag you need:

  1. Embroidery Thread – Thread codes are Marathon Rayon.
  2. Embroidery Stabilizer – We recommend 1 layer “cut away” stabilizer
  3. Optional: Batting of your choice – we used 1 thin layer.
  4. Fabic for the outside of the bag
  5. Contrast fabric for lining (inside).

* For the 4*4 hoop Tote you need a piece of fabric approx 25″ x 25″

* For the 5*5 hoop Tote you need a piece of fabric approx 31″ x 31″

  1. Handles: You can make your own, Use a fancy Trim/Ribbon or buy ready made Handles from your local supplier.
  2. Optional: We added a Closure (button and elastic or store bought closure)

Embroidery Steps :

Choose between 4*4 hoop OR 5*5 hoop size.

  • Hoop the following 3: Cut-away stabilizer 1st, then place a small square batting 2d in the center of the stabilizer and 3d place the Fabric on top of these.
  • Stitch out a Total of 22 Blocks.

  • Cut all 22 Blocks the same size. For our 4*4 hoop designs we cut all our squares 6″.
  • Cut away the stabilizer, as well as the batting from the back of the design.

  • We will stitch the blocks together in the order mentioned in your download.
  • 11 Blocks will create each panel of your Tote Bag

Sewing Steps :

  • To stitch 2 blocks together, place them on top of each other. Right sides facing each other.
  • Line up the corners to match as closely as possible. Pin and stitch with a straight stitch. I used a Stitch Length of 2.5
  • Stitch only 1 side.

  • Do the same to complete a row of 4 blocks and a row of 5 blocks.
  • Open all seams by ironing them.

  • To stitch together the 1st and 2d row, place the 2 blocks in the center of the 4 blocks

  • Line up all the corners, pin and stitch with a straight stitch

  • In the same manner you will join all the rows to complete your Tote Bag.
  • Your download includes a complete Photo Tutorial.
