"Annemarie le Roux is the 'heart-and-soul' of the Namibian based business 'A Stitch a Half'and the creator of the exquisite designs found on their web page. Her husband, Sybrand, who takes care of the website presentation, and Dina who stitches out Annemarie's designs for display on their website join her in the business.

These divine little bags have been given exclusively to Australian Stitches to showcase Annemarie's superb work. Follow her step-by-step photos and you too can create a wonderful gift for a loved one or, better still for yourself."

So where is Namibia?

Namibia is in South-West Africa, a country of rugged scenery that at one time was home only to nomadic San Bushmen. Time and nature have created extreme and diverse landscapes of stark beauty. Dina, who is the embroiderer of Annemarie's designs, is a proud Herero. The Herero have lived in the Namibia area for over 350 years. They are cattle farmers who measure their wealth in cattle; the importance of cattle is even evident in the Herero woman’s clothes. The traditional dress is derived from a Victorian-era dress and consists of an enormous crinoline worn over several petticoats. A horn-shaped hat (said to present the horns of a cow) made from rolled cloth is also worn.

Dear Annemarie, I have made quite a few of your purses now and absolutely enjoy making them in different colors and materials. This photo is the first black evening purse that I made for a friends daughter. It does not look so black in the picture but thought you may like to see it. I Just love your work. Many thanks, Jean M, in UK.  JEMILLA22@aol.com

Hello Annemarie, I have used your purse to complete my outfit for a wedding tomorrow. I used the same fabric for the purse as for my jacket. Just want to show it to you. You can use it on your project page if you wish. Kind regards from The Netherlands, Silvia. Silviavanderkolk@hetnet.nl
